The LGSA Policy Platform for the 2007 State Election
The LGSA has endorsed a Policy Platform for the March 2007 State Election. The platform was formally launched by both presidents at the LGA Conference in October. It outlines the main issues impacting on Local Government and their communities and asks political parties to commit to do something about them if elected. Copies have been sent to the Government, the Opposition and all major political parties, and the LGSA is hosting the State Election Local Government Policy Debate on 23 February at Parliament House. The Minister for Local Government, Shadow Minister and independent MP's will be outlining their Policy Platforms and answering questions.

Opposition Commits to IGA and No Forced Amalgamations
At this year's Local Government Association (LGA) Annual Conference the Opposition Leader, Peter Debnam, with Shadow Minister for Local Government, John Turner, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Presidents of the Associations.
The purpose of the MOU is to improve the sustainability of councils around NSW by strengthening the relationship between the two spheres of government.
The memorandum promises a transparent and coordinated approach to policy issues relevant to Local Government, and includes a number of key commitments (which are also suggested in the Associations' Election Platform) if the Opposition is elected to Government in 2007.
