Cowra Mayor Elected President of Association

The Mayor of Cowra, Cr Bruce Miller, has been elected as President of the Shires Association of NSW.

He follows Cr Col Sullivan OAM, who held the position for the maximum two year period.

Cr Miller brings almost 20 years local government experience to the role.

He has been the Vice President of the Association for the past three years, is an executive member of the Central West Regional Organisation of Councils (CENTROC) and is on the board of the Strengthening Local Government Task Force.

A councillor with Cowra Shire since 1991, Cr Miller was deputy mayor between 1992 and 1994, and has been mayor since September 1994.

"I'm honoured member councils are giving me the opportunity to represent them as president and I look forward to contributing to local government in this capacity," Cr Miller said.

"I have to thank past president Col Sullivan, whose many achievements include commissioning the Independent Inquiry into the Sustainability of NSW Local Government, increasing the services available to our members, and getting more assistance for communities to protect their precious water supplies."

Cr Sullivan said he looked forward to continuing to work with Cr Miller in his capacity as the Past President.

"My sincerest congratulations to Bruce. His energy, experience and commitment to local government will be put to good use as president."

"I have to say I have really enjoyed fighting for a better deal for councils and their communities, and I look forward to continuing to contribute over the next two years as past president."
