Events and Conferences

The two major events each year are the annual conferences of the Local Government Association of NSW and the Shires Association of NSW.

Other more targeted conferences held by the Associations include the LGSA Tourism Conference, the Water Management Conference and the Human Resources Conference. In addition, the LGSA manages a range of topical seminars and local government awards, namely the Environment Awards, Cultural Awards and Local Government Week inclusive of the RH Dougherty Excellence in Communication Awards.

In 2011, for the first time, the LGSA recorded one of its key events so that it could demonstrate and share an insight with our members, colleagues, and supporters. Local Councils are involved in a vast array of issues and projects, both instigated by them and partnering with communities and organizations. Events in 2012
	Tourism Conference 12 to 14 March 2012, Gunnedah Partnered by Destination New South Wales this conference presents an interactive platform for councillors and council staff to listen to experts and peers, and to find out how other councils are engaging and managing their tourism industry.
	Local Government Cultural Awards TBC May 2012, Sydney The Cultural Awards are presented at a gala evening to councils for the work they undertake in the areas of cultural policy, planning and programs.
	Employment Law Seminar 18 May 2012,Amora Hotel Jamison, 11 Jamison Street, Sydney This seminar is an essential professional development opportunity for all managers and particularly general managers, senior managers, human resources managers.
	Shires Association of NSW Annual Conference 4 June to 6 June 2012, Sydney The Shires Association is a voluntary association of councils representing regional and rural councils to provide leadership and advocacy for the benefit of the community. Over 300 delegates from member councils as well as Regional Organisations of Councils meet to discuss and set policy for the coming year.
	Personal and Executive Assistants' Annual Conference 22 June 2012, Amora Hotel Jamison, 11 Jamison Street, Sydney Attend the PA/EA annual conference to develop skills which can impact on your success and productivity for the year ahead.
	Water Management Conference 2012 22 to 24 July, Wagga Wagga The Water Management Conference program draws on the expertise of government and industry representatives from NSW and beyond, covers a range of current issues in water management and presents models and ideas for consideration in the future.
	Local Government Week 13 to 19 August 2012, around NSW Local Government Week provides a focus for councils to promote the importance of Local Government to the community. Councils across NSW hold an array of special events during this time.
	Local Government Awards Evening 16 August 2012, venue tbc Sydney The premier event launching Local Government Week. The Local Government Awards presented include the RH Dougherty Awards for communication, the Heart Foundation Awards, the Youth Week Local Government Awards and the Cancer Council Local Government Partnership Awards.
	Local Government Association of NSW Annual Conference 28 to 31 October 2012, Dubbo The Local Government Association, established in 1883, is a voluntary association of councils representing metropolitan and large regional councils to provide leadership and advocacy for the benefit of the community. The policies of the LGA are determined at their annual conference.
	NSW Local Government Human Resources Conference 14 to 19 November 2012, venue tbc Sydney Local Government Learning Solutions coordinates this premier professional development event for human resources, training and OH & S staff, directors and managers needing to learn about cutting edge trends in leading employees.
	Local Government Excellence in Environment Awards 4 December 2012, Sydney The Local Government Excellence in the Environment Awards were initiated by the LGSA in 1998 and are held annually. The awards are open to all councils in NSW and aim to recognise outstanding achievements in managing and protecting the environment.

ALGWA State Conference - Dubbo 22nd - 24th March

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT

The LGSA is committed to environmental sustainability at our events and conferences, to reduce the impact on the planet. Initiatives in place to "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" include a waste reduction policy, the use of glasses and water jugs rather than bottled water, and locally sourced produce for catering where
possible.

SUSTAINABILITY EVENT TRAINING

The current landscape is changing. Event Management is no exception. Be prepared and arm yourself with the skills to tackle new challenges and opportunities in sustainability.

A 100% NSW Government subsidised professional development course in sustainable event management is announced to commence in September 2011. The two-day course aims to increase the skills and competencies of event professionals to meet the increasing sustainability demands on the industry.

A partnership between events sustainability experts GreenShoot Pacific, and the training organisation Hunter Institute TAFE and GreenSkills NSW, allows course fees to be covered, however a TAFE enrolment fee of $225.00 will apply to all participants.
