Events and Conferences
The two major events each year are the annual conferences of the Local Government Association of NSW and the Shires Association of NSW.
Other more targeted conferences held by the Associations include the LGSA Tourism Conference, the Water Management Conference and the Human Resources Conference. In addition, the LGSA manages a range of topical seminars and local government awards, namely the Environment Awards, Cultural Awards and Local Government Week inclusive of the RH Dougherty Excellence in Communication Awards.

In 2011, for the first time, the LGSA recorded one of its key events so that it could demonstrate and share an insight with our members, colleagues, and supporters. | Local Government Week 13 to 19 August 2012, around NSW Local Government Week provides a focus for councils to promote the importance of Local Government to the community. Councils across NSW hold an array of special events during this time. |

The Local Government Awards presented include the RH Dougherty Awards for communication, the Heart Foundation Awards, the Youth Week Local Government Awards and the Cancer Council Local Government Partnership Awards. |
| Local Government Association of NSW Annual Conference 28 to 31 October 2012, Dubbo The Local Government Association, established in 1883, is a voluntary association of councils representing metropolitan and large regional councils to provide leadership and advocacy for the benefit of the community. The policies of the LGA are determined at their annual conference. |
 | NSW Local Government Human Resources Conference 14 to 19 November 2012, venue tbc Sydney Local Government Learning Solutions coordinates this premier professional development event for human resources, training and OH & S staff, directors and managers needing to learn about cutting edge trends in leading employees. |
 | Local Government Excellence in Environment Awards 4 December 2012, Sydney The Local Government Excellence in the Environment Awards were initiated by the LGSA in 1998 and are held annually. The awards are open to all councils in NSW and aim to recognise outstanding achievements in managing and protecting the environment. |
