Events and Conferences

The two major events each year are the annual conferences of the Local Government Association of NSW and the Shires Association of NSW.

Other more targeted conferences held by the Associations include the LGSA Tourism Conference, the Water Management Conference and the Human Resources Conference. In addition, the LGSA manages a range of topical seminars and local government awards, namely the Environment Awards, Cultural Awards and Local Government Week inclusive of the RH Dougherty Excellence in Communication Awards.

Shires Association of NSW Annual Conference

The Shires Association is a voluntary association of councils representing regional and rural councils to provide leadership and advocacy for the benefit of the community. Over 300 delegates from member councils as well as Regional Organisations of Councils meet to discuss and set policy for the coming year.

The premier event launching Local Government Week. The Local Government Awards presented include the RH Dougherty Awards for communication, the Heart Foundation Awards, the Youth Week Local Government Awards and the Cancer Council Local Government Partnership Awards.

Local Government Excellence in Environment Awards

Local Government Excellence in Environment Awards

The Local Government Excellence in the Environment Awards were initiated by the LGSA in 1998 and are held annually. The awards are open to all councils in NSW and aim to recognise outstanding achievements in managing and protecting the environment.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT

The LGSA is committed to environmental sustainability at our events and conferences, to reduce the impact on the planet. Initiatives in place to "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" include a waste reduction policy, the use of glasses and water jugs rather than bottled water, and locally sourced produce for catering where
possible.

SUSTAINABILITY EVENT TRAINING

The current landscape is changing. Event Management is no exception. Be prepared and arm yourself with the skills to tackle new challenges and opportunities in sustainability.

A 100% NSW Government subsidised professional development course in sustainable event management is announced to commence in September 2011. The two-day course aims to increase the skills and competencies of event professionals to meet the increasing sustainability demands on the industry.

A partnership between events sustainability experts GreenShoot Pacific, and the training organisation Hunter Institute TAFE and GreenSkills NSW, allows course fees to be covered, however a TAFE enrolment fee of $225.00 will apply to all participants.
