The Finance Portfolio encompasses a broad range of issues involving all aspects of finance and economic policy that relate to Local Government. Activities include involves policy development, advocacy, analysis, project management and advice.

Issues covered include:

  • rates, fees and charges
  • Local Government financial assistance grants (FAGs)
  • Local Government financial reform
  • asset management
  • intergovernmental fiscal relations
  • National Competition Policy
  • infrastructure (electricity & telecommunications)
  • taxation
  • regional infrastructure and services
  • economic development policy and projects
  • State and Federal budget analysis

Finance issues are currently coordinated by Shaun McBride as part of the Finance Infrastructure and Planning Team. Advice on finance issues is also provided to other policy teams and LGSA divisions.


Standing Committees relating to Finance


Finance policy issues are dealt with by the Associations Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Development.
