Public Health - Role of Local Government

In late 2004 the Associations surveyed councils to obtain information about the approach and extent of Local Government activity in public health covering both health protection and promotion.

The survey investigated approaches to improving public health outcomes through social planning and public health planning, and links with council management, strategic and statutory planning processes, activities of councils in public health, partnerships with Area Health Services, best practice in public health and capacity building strategies. The Associations received a 70% response rate from a broad cross-section of NSW councils.
