Planning
The development and implementation of planning policy is a key responsibility of the Finance, Infrastructure and Planning Team, which is part of the Associations' Policy and Research Division.
The team is headed by the Strategy Manager, Finance, Infrastructure and Planning and consists of the following policy officers:

The Finance, Infrastructure and Planning Team is responsible for portfolio issues including Local Government Finances, Intergovernmental Fiscal Relations, Economic Policy, Economic and Regional Development, Tourism, Road Funding and Management, Aviation, Public and Sustainable Transport, Rail Transport, Planning System Reform, Affordable Housing, Heritage and Bushfire Protection.
The planning policy officersrepresent the interests of Local Government on a wide range of planning matters, provide advice to councils and assist in the development and implementation of planning policies.

Planning policy issues are dealt with by the Associations Standing Committee (34KB) on Planning and Environment.

Australian Local Government Association
Further information about local government planning can also be gained through the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) which also advocates for local government's role in planning and development through relevant national bodies and inquiries. For example, ALGA represents NSW and other state and territory local government on the the Local Government and Planning Ministers' Council (LGPMC), the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) and the Development Assessment Forum (DAF). ALGA is an observer member of the Housing Ministers' Conference. Information about ALGA's involvement in relation to planning and housing matters is available via ALGA's website.
